As you may be aware, there have recently been increases to the tariffs imposed on certain goods imported into the United States. 

This, of course, also applies to packages shipped from Japan.

However, at present, if the declared value of the imported goods from Japan is less than 800 USD, you do not need to pay customs duties.
The value here includes shipping costs.
